Day 6.png

Perhaps the most isolated fine-wine producing country in the world, it is no wonder that South Africa is unique in many ways. Our South African Cabernet Sauvignon is very typical of the region's style, incredible quality and very agreeable price point. A wine that embodies decades of experimentation, improvement and fine-tuning to produce a signature style of Cabernet found nowhere else in the world, A Seaworthy Tale is a fine example of South Africa’s ability to grow world class Cabernet Sauvignon.  Here, the grapes ripen slowly and fully in the vivid sunlight and retain their lovely aromatics from the cooling breezes of the Southern Atlantic Ocean.

A Seaworthy Tale is a wine of terroir, ample and rich yet still maintaining a sense of balance and finesse. The tannins are fine, the mid-palate layered and all edges rounded - a fine testament to what South Africa can do with Cabernet Sauvignon. A Seaworthy Tale pours a deep ruby/purple color, followed by a smorgasbord of cassis, crushed violet and dark chocolate flavors.

Roast beef, duck in a cherry sauce, lamb chops, dishes featuring shitake mushrooms, spicy veggie kabobs, grilled swordfish.

It may be a surprise to hear that Cabernet has been a mainstay of the South African wine industry for decades. However, it is only recently that it is beginning to emerge as South Africa’s most exciting red wine – now responsible for a majority of red grape plantings. With a climate warmer than France yet cooler than Napa, it is perhaps no surprise that our South African Cabernet straddles the line between the two styles – spicy, savory and structured like in the Bordeaux, while also generous, fruit-forward and boldly flavored like the California versions.

Wine is an integral part of the South African economy and its societal fabric, and any one who has had the opportunity to visit has been amazed by the diversity of nationalities and ethnicities present on the wine trails, giving the country’s wines a unique flair. We are proud of A Seaworthy Tale’s ability to reflect South Africa’s unique style and robust tradition of growing great Cabernet Sauvignon.

Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are very sensitive to particular terroirs, and each of our vineyard parcels have particular needs in the cellar. Each parcel of A Seaworthy Tale vineyard is thus harvested separately and the grapes are processed focusing on their individual needs. A combination of stainless steel tanks and oak barrels are used during the elevage process, and the lots are expertly blended before bottling.
